Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ubuntu Memory Maker reusable?

Yes! Our Memory Makers are 100% reusable, just swap out your film roll for a new one once it’s finished & continue capturing beautiful moments!

Do I need batteries for my Ubuntu Memory Maker?

Yes! You will need 1x brand new AA battery to power the flash on your camera.

How do I develop my film?

Once you have used up your roll of film, you will have to go to your nearest camera shop that offers film development to get your photos developed. They will develop your photos as either physical prints, onto a flash drive, or digital scans which can be emailed directly to your phone. Processing times will vary from shop to shop, but should take approximately 2-5 days to be fully developed and ready

What if there aren't film developers near me?

There are a number of camera shops in South Africa that accept film via mail or drop off. You can find these shops by searching “film processing near me” on google. If you are having troubles finding a lab to process your film, please reach out to us at hello@ubuntufilm.co so that we can recommend developers in your local area :)

How can i get the developed photos onto my phone?

When you take your film to get developed, you have the option to have your developed film photos emailed to you, which you can download straight into your gallery

Is the Memory Maker compatible with any 35mm Film?

Yes! Our Memory Makers are compatible with any brand of 35mm film. Either 24 or 36 exposure film can be used in the camera - that just tells you how many photos there are per roll of film.

When should I use the flash?

We recommend always using the flash when taking film photos - unless you are taking photos in direct sunlight, but we use it anyways. We recommend changing the flash battery every 7-8 weeks, but leaving the flash on will drain the battery life a lot quicker and you may have to change it sooner.

What do I do if my flash won't turn on?

If your flash isn’t turning on then it’s likely that the battery powering the flash has died. We recommend changing the battery every 7-8 weeks, however, leaving the battery on will drain the battery life a lot faster.

How many photos are on a roll of film?

Depending on the brand of film you buy, you can get either 24 or 36 photos per roll of film.

How do I travel with my Memory Maker?

Always travel with your memory maker in your hand luggage inside a ziploc bag as the x-ray machines at customs used to inspect your luggage use low levels of radiation that won’t cause visible damage to your film photos. The ziploc bag is an extra precaution to protect your film

Why won’t my camera take a second photo?

You have to rewind the wheel on the top right of your camera before every photo, otherwise your photo won’t take. Winding the wheel rolls the film over, ready for your next film photo
